What Causes Outdoor Curtains To Fade?

When outdoor curtains are exposed to UV rays for extended periods, the material can begin to break down. This can occur due to a chemical reaction between the dye or fiber in the fabric and the UV rays. As a result, the dye or fiber can break down, causing fading - a process known as "photo degradation."While no fabric can withstand all UV rays indefinitely, a sun-resistant fabric should be able to resist significant fading for the expected lifetime of outdoor curtains.

Why Use UV/Fade-Resistant Outdoor Curtains?

Much like how you would use sunscreen to protect your skin from the damaging effects of UV rays, your outdoor curtains should also be equipped with their own form of SPF.

Prolonged exposure to UV rays can cause the fabric to break down, leading to fading and a shorter lifespan. That's why it's important to choose high-quality outdoor curtains, such as our Fadenomore™ collection, that are specifically designed to withstand the elements and resist fading.

What Is UV/Fade-Resistant Fabric?

UV, which stands for "ultraviolet," is a form of light wave or radiation with a shorter wavelength than visible light but a longer wavelength than X-rays. UV rays are particularly good at penetrating through objects, which is how they can cause fading and other types of damage.A UV/fade-resistant fabric is one that has been treated to withstand UV rays, which account for approximately 10% of the sun's light spectrum.

How To Decide If You Need UV/Fade-Resistant Curtains?

If you live in a very sunny part of the States (e.g. the southern regions), it’s even more important to look for sun and fade-resistant outdoor curtains and ask questions about how it will perform in your environment.
